Mother’s Day BackFIRE…

Well, my Mother’s Day weekend backFIRED on me – quite literally.  Let me explain:

Since it was Mother’s day weekend, Brandon did what any logical husband and father would do – he planned a trip for himself and Dayton to attend a car show at Ellington Field.  How sweet of him is that!?!?!  He said since they were going to the car show in the morning and Mallory and I had a wedding shower to attend, they’d be happy to meet up with us in Sugar land for the afternoon/evening for shopping and dining.  Well isn’t that thoughtful?  I, on the other hand, had a different agenda.  Being that we were going to both have cars in Sugar Land at that point, and I knew we’d both like to have a few adult beverages with our meal, I decided to take it upon myself the day before and book a hotel room at the Sugar Land Marriott – happy Mother’s day to myself!  I decided to keep it a surprise from Dayton and Brandon.  So, as soon as they left for the car show Saturday morning, I proceeded to pack all four of us up with everything we’d need for the afternoon, night, and ride back to church in El Campo that Sunday morning.  It was quite a task and I was crunched for time.  Anyways, after Mallory and I attended a beautiful shower, we were off to meet up with the boys.  I called the hotel on the way there and they said we could check in as soon as we arrived – wow.  Things were gonna work out great – we’d be in Sugar Land at 1:00 and be able to check in and let the kiddos take a nap and then maybe shop around town square for a while.  I called Brandon and shared the surprise and him and Dayton were excited.  So, Mallory and I beat the boys to the hotel and I parked in the parking garage – didn’t want to valet two cars so I was going to let Brandon valet his (remember it was Mother’s Day and all, geesh).  Anyways, we parked, and I loaded up Mallory and all of our luggage onto our double stroller and walked down the hotel.  As soon as I got to the doors I realized everyone exiting the building and three fire trucks pulled up along with a couple of cop cars.  Oh great.  Come to find out, our hotel was on fire.  An electrical fire.  We waited on the boys to get there and they made us move to the opposite side of the street saying it was “not safe” to be that close.  At this point, we decided to load up and head over to Lupe Tortilla for drinks and appetizers while they figured out the issue.  We also went to Academy to burn time.  We returned around three, ready to check in and nap, and still no go.  They were still trying to figure out the issue and no one was allowed in.  They said check back at five.  So, we went to the mall.  We got back around 5:30 ready to go upstairs, shower and get ready for a nice dinner.  Still, the electricity  in the entire hotel wasn’t working and they weren’t allowing anyone to check in – no estimated time line at this point.  We were forced to cancel our room, drive home, order out and eat in our living room in pjs.  So, it wasn’t so bad but it still was disappointing.  I tried to plan something fun and spontaneous and it didn’t work out.  I also created more work for myself because all of the bags I’d packed that morning had to be brought home, unpacked and returned to their proper places.  Oh well, it was all worth a try and we did make the most of it.

I had a wonderfully enjoyable Mother’s Day on Sunday.  Brandon gave me a Victoria Secret’s gift card to buy some swimsuit pieces which I used on Saturday and the kiddos gave me a Canon fixed lens like the one I used for Alicia and Neil’s engagement pictures.  I am sooo excited to learn how to use it.  Daddy did very good on that one!  I also got a few things at Francesca's in the mall on Saturday.

We woke up and Brandon “cooked” breakfast for me – my usual – coffee and cinnamon toast.  Then, we got dressed and went to mass.  After church, we went to my parent’s for lunch.  After lunch, we came home and took some nice naps.  After naps, we headed over to the Zabodyns for swimming and more yummy food.  It was a very relaxing day spent with all of my most favorite people.  So what if our plans fell through on Saturday, as long as I was with my most favorite three people in the whole world – the people that make me a Mother and give me a reason to breathe – that was all that mattered.  I am blessed and I am honored to be a mother to such wonderful little beings and I am so in love with their daddy and them that my heart grows bigger every day :)

No pictures from MeMe’s – shame on me.  Here a few from swimming that afternoon:

This was one of my best Mother’s Day gifts ever – Dayton jumped off into the deep end and was able to swim all the way to the shallow end of the pool.  We are proud of how far this little man has come in the swimming department.  His daddy works with him very hard!

Happy Belated Mother’s Day to all of the moms out there – hope it was great :)

Rock This Town!

So, here I am finally getting around to writing my recital post :)  Everything ran so smoothly – maybe after eight years of this, I’m finally getting the hang of it!  Rehearsal was a bit of a let down – lots of absences – some excused, some not.  I was freaked out.  Worried.  Panicked.  A nervous wreck.  I’m not sure how we pulled it off, but it happened.  No real criers.  No stage fright.  On and off as smoothly as ever – we danced over 160 girls that Sunday night, 49 routines, in around 2 hours and 15 minutes.  Success – I think so.  I couldn’t be happier with my dancers, their parents, my family.  Everyone did their part to make this night a wonderful one.  It was awesome!  Here a few pics from rehearsal/recital.  Thanks to DeDe I have pictures of every single routine and I’d love to share every costume and dance with you, but that would take a long, long time, so here’s a condensed version – mainly just family :)

These are from rehearsal

Here’s is Bryn’s group ending pose – they did Jailhouse Rock – El Campo Police Department,  Bryn is second from the right sitting on the box:

These are my “old” girls.  I know they aren’t all dressed the same (rehearsal), but I just have to brag on them – love them.  Amazing young ladies who are so, so respectful.  I would love for Mallory to grow up to be like all of them – they are wonderful.  Another year, and I’m gonna be golden in the babysitter dept!!! (They danced to Pop Drop and Roll that I saw on So You Think You Can Dance and they represented Chinese Cuisine)

Anna & MeMe:

Another quick brag – these are just four of the group, but these girls were my first class of three year olds when I started teaching – wow!  How old am I?  They will be entering sixth grade next year.  I love them dearly and I can’t believe they just completed their first year of drill team prep.  Future Derby Dolls?  I think so.

Yep, that’s me playing air guitar – I rocked it.  We danced to We Built This City on Rock & Roll.

Our pointe routine this year had eleven girls in it – most I’ve ever choreographed into one pointe dance.  It was so pretty – they did “I Can Only Imagine” and represented the churches in EC.

Love this one of Bryn:

My fifth grade high kickers:

Yes that’s me.  Yes I’m high kicking.  And, yes I’m wearing a pettiskirt.  It seemed like such a cute idea until I was backstage fixing to go on and I looked down at the poofiness – what am I getting myself into I thought????

Okay – not any good pics of our finale this year.  It was equally as amazing as last year’s light show.  Blacked out lights and all the girls had on was glow hair, glow sunglasses and glow gloves that changed colors and had different effects.  So fun!  We did Party Rock Anthem:

I look like a hot mess in this pic, but that’s exactly what I was at this point.  Can not wait for Miss Mallory to be participating next year :)

Mallory is cute, but how beautiful does grown-up Bryn look in this picture?!?! IMG_7214

Me and my three favorite dancers in the world!  I can’t wait for the day that we all get to dance together!

Here’s me with my sweet girls Shelby and Savannah.  They are so cute and the girls have all fallen in love with them this year!

We had a “wrap” party at our house after the show.  Enchiladas and all the fixings.  The kiddos had a great time.  It was nice to have the recital early on a Sunday afternoon.  We got it all cleaned up and were back at my house in time to play outside a while and enjoy some daylight!

I’m still pretty high on life at how well the show went.  I swear it’s like planning a wedding every year of my life.  I am still throwing around ideas for next year’s show, so if anyone out there has any good ideas, PLEASE throw them at me!!!
